









SIREN 2009 (The HSSE Show)
"Success Through Professional Development"
SIREN 2009 promises to be Trinidad and Tobago's largest, most beneficial Health, Safety, Security and Environmental symposium that features international speakers, educational opportunities and competitions. SIREN 2009 will host emergency medical workshops, presentations, fire and EMS demonstrations, advances in new technology and demo exhibits. There will be a safe driving obstacle course competition, a fire fighter competition, skills drills, emergency medical workshops and a police and security range competition. SIREN 2009 will be the premier event where all the health, police and security, fire and rescue, safety professionals and environmentalists meet under one roof for education, to see advances in technology and further develop their careers.
The 2009 theme for SIREN is "Success Through Professional Development". Professional development simply means the development of skills and knowledge for personal and professional advancement. The focus is to be as intense and collaborative as possible. It will be industry specific, professionally driven and geared towards building and fostering teamwork across all of the emergency services. The Organizing Committee believes that in every emergency there is a tiered response. Every scene is dynamic and requires an HSSE team approach to effectively deal with it.
SIREN 2009 is being developed to promote, enhance and foster team work within the Health, Safety, Security and Environmental professions. Specifically the committee will facilitate these objectives by:
(1) Information sharing
(2) Assist with building linkages between professions
(3) Each member will speak on their profession's behalf and where possible ensure the information provided is accurate
(4) Support a culture of research, education and skill improvement
(5) Collaborate information at a national forum annually
(6) Develop educational platforms for HSSE
(7) Foster professional competition for the purpose of professional skill improvement
(8) Bring professionals and industry experts to the annual symposium to educate and foster best practices in HSSE
(9) Display and promote the best products for the enhancement of each profession
(10) Keep the HSSE community abreast of the development and strategies of the annual symposium
(11) Further develop inventory of funding partners to enhance the annual symposium
(12) Develop an annual CD displaying the highlights of the symposium
(13) Have a post Incident debriefing session immediately after the symposium to provide an improvement strategy for the next year's symposium by way of written recommendations
(14) Request participant feedback in the form of a questionnaire
(15) Contain the participant entrance fees to assist in allowing everyone to attend and learn
(16) The symposium will be held over a four day period with each day utilizing as much time dedicated to providing as much high impact professional development
(17) Develop any necessary policy, protocol or procedure necessary to promote a safe and healthy symposium
(18) Monitor all activities to ensure that a high standard of professionalism is maintained
(19) Assist with getting internal support in each area of HSSE, specifically:
a. Hospitals (public and private)
b. EMS (public and private)
c. National Fire and Police services
d. EMA
e. Governmental support
f. OSH Agency
g. ILO
h. Volunteer organizations like Red Cross and the Salvation Army
i. ODPM
The Organizing Committee (OC) will keep an open mind and seek as much industry specific information on the educational, promotional and professional development related to the theme of the annual symposium. The OC will provide public education in HSSE in as many mediums as possible in bringing about a better awareness of HSSE.
The OC will use multiple formats of communication (i.e. digital communication, website, letter correspondence, newsletter, etc) to promote the symposium. Specifically the OC will send out an annual survey to enable the OC to deliver the best possible symposium to its customers (HSSE community).
The OC will recruit additional members as necessary and appropriate to promote the objectives of the committee. The new members will be known as the Organizing Committee Ad Hoc Members (OCAHM)
